A Lesson in Name Pronunciation

Without a risk of saying too much about the company’s recent mega-litigation, I can tell you that one of the numerous plaintiffs’ was named Mel Falcon. And of course, being the incurable dweeb that I am, my very first thought was "Almost like the Millennium Falcon! From Star Wars! Sweeet!" Imagine my disappointment when I found out recently, as we settled the whole nasty matter, that it’s a Hispanic last name and is pronounced fal-cone. Kinda cuts down on the awesomeness factor just a tad. And totally dissipates my on-going idea that he was one of those cult-like fans who have their names legally changed to their favorite characters’, carry light sabers and write on stock-form documents that their religious affiliation is Jedi. It all became a lot less funny, even if only in my own mind. Because somehow paying an outrageously exorbitant settlement is almost amusing when its going to some guy who’s going to blow it on hookers dressed like Princess Leia and life-sized Ewok replicas off of eBay. As it is, the money will likely just be spent on run-of-the-mill, generically trashy hookers and regular ol’ boring eBay crap. Where is the fun in that?!
