Because He Died and We Were ALL There

My oldest cousin Ashley has three of the cutest kids alive. Her youngest, Madeline, age five, is what my Southern kin would (and does) call “a pistol”. Before the private, family viewing of my grandfather’s body at the funeral home Maddie pleaded with her mom that she be allowed to attend. But Ashley explained that she just wasn’t old enough, people were going to be very sad, seeing a dead body would only give her nightmares, etc. What resulted was the following exchange:

But Mom! I won’t be scared. I’ve seen a dead body before!”

“Oh you have, have you? When?”

“Um, hello? Jesus died on the cross for my sins!”

“And you were there?!”

“Duh"

Ladies and gentlemen, Miss Maddie is five -- and already a better lawyer than I am.

Your verb singularity ("does") needs revision unless you only have one kin in the south. I know, secretaries usually catch this sort of minor glitch. Ain't it hell, being out there alone as a blogger!
